General information

The support measure “Swiss-Slovak Health Programme” falls under the thematic area “Strengthening Social Systems”. This measure will be implemented as a programme. The programme is managed by the Ministry of Investment, Regional Development and Informatisation of the Slovak Republic. The Ministry of Health of the Slovak Republic is the material guarantor and cooperating entity.

The programme focuses on the theme of non-communicable diseases and health promotion. It aims to reduce avoidable mortality and the incidence of preventable NCDs.

This objective will be achieved through three programme components.

The allocation from the second Swiss contribution (85 %) is 15 million Swiss francs. With co-financing from the State budget of the Slovak Republic (15%), the total amount of eligible expenditure for the programme is EUR 18 529 411.00. The duration of implementation is planned for 46 months.

The support measure “Swiss-Slovak Health Programme” was approved by the Swiss side on 18 December 2024. The agreement on the support measure was signed on 1 April 2025.

Programme component 1 “Strengthening the management of NCD prevention and health promotion in Slovakia”
Programme component operator: Ministry of Health of the Slovak Republic
Focus: This is a pre-defined project, the beneficiary of which is the Ministry of Health of the Slovak Republic, which will implement the activities in cooperation with public health authorities. The key pillars of the programme component are the establishment of a governance model for NCD prevention and health promotion, strengthening the coordinated engagement of municipalities and regional partners in NCD prevention and health promotion, and improving coordination and communication among stakeholders across sectors.
The project contract for Programme Component 1 was signed on 1 April 2025.

Programme Component 2: Call for Local Government Regions “Prevention of NCDs in Slovak Local Government Regions”
Operators of the programme components selected on the basis of the call: will be known after the announcement of the results of the call
Focus: builds on the foundations laid under Programme Component 1 and aims to establish and maintain a network of prevention coordinators while implementing specific measures at regional level. These actions directly address the needs of a specific region in the area of NCD prevention and/or health promotion.

Programme Component 3: Call for cities ‘Prevention of NCDs in Slovak cities’
Operators of the programme components selected under the call: to be announced after the results of the call have been announced
Focus: builds on the foundations laid under Programme Component 1 and aims to establish and maintain a network of prevention coordinators while implementing concrete actions at local level. These actions are designed to directly address the needs of a specific municipality in the area of NCD prevention and/or health promotion.
