March in the Spirit of Change: ŠIOV Strengthens the Link Between Vocational Education and Practice

In March, the State Institute of Vocational Education (SIVE) carried out several activities aimed at modernising vocational education in Slovakia. Their common goal is to improve the quality of teaching, better align it with labour market needs, and create more attractive conditions for both students and teachers.

One of the key steps is the adjustment of school educational programmes. Under the methodological guidance of SIVE, nine secondary vocational schools are actively working on adapting their programmes to current labour market demands and regional needs. Employers are also involved in shaping the content, helping to ensure that graduates acquire skills applicable in real working environments. An important part of these changes is also the stronger connection between schools and practice. In cooperation with the AGRION association, SIVE organised an expert seminar for teachers. Educators became familiar with current trends and innovations, which they can subsequently integrate into their teaching. Such activities help ensure that education reflects rapid technological developments and the real needs of employers. In addition to changes in teaching, SIVE is also focusing on systemic solutions. A new partnership between vocational schools, universities, and other stakeholders aims to simplify the transition of graduates to higher education. The goal is to enable smoother continuation in education, including the recognition of previously acquired knowledge and practical skills, making studies more efficient and accessible. All these steps contribute to the creation of a modern, flexible, and practice-oriented vocational education system.
