  • Slovak Experts Inspired by Switzerland: Master Craft Exams and More Attractive Vocational Education

Slovak education experts visited Switzerland to learn about its vocational education and training system. The goal was to gain inspiration for making vocational education in Slovakia more attractive and better aligned with labour market needs.

The Swiss model is well known for its dual education system, in which schools work closely with employers. Students acquire practical skills directly in companies during their studies, while vocational instructors often combine teaching with professional practice — ensuring that their knowledge and skills remain up to date.

The Slovak delegation visited Lausanne and Bern, gaining valuable insights into the organisation of master craft exams, career guidance, and employer involvement in education. Swiss companies and schools also emphasise the importance of giving young people early exposure to the world of work, already during primary education.

The lessons learned will serve as inspiration for modernising Slovakia’s vocational education system, particularly in construction, agriculture, and food processing. Slovakia plans to continue cooperation with Swiss partners through seminars and webinars, aiming to transfer best practices into the Slovak context and strengthen the prestige of vocational education.
